We are starting a series of recommendations for how to see Houston in 3 Days. This is where we will be asking a variety of people where they take their visitors to in Houston.
There is so much to see and do in Houston and everyone has their different favorite hot spots to showcase everything that Houston has to offer.
Day 1 –
Start the day out having some fresh Breakfast Tacos at Chilosos. They continually get votes for the best tacos in Houston and will only set you back a few dollars per taco.
Then take a drive to San Jacinto Monument. This monument is such an important landmark in Texas history and gives visitors an excellent overview on the history of this state.
In the afternoon, visit a big sporting event. In Houston, nothing is more famous and loved than their sport. With a different sporting event played year round, there is nearly always something on whilst your visitor is in town.
- Baseball – Houston Astros play at Minute Maid Park, April – September.
- Basketball – Houston Rockets play at Toyota Center, late October through to May or June.
- NFL – Houston Texans play at Reliant Stadium, September through to the playoffs in January.
There are also great college games open to the public through the University of Houston. My out of town guests always love to see this side of the US culture.
Then head to Dinner at the Goode Company for some Texas BBQ and Pecan Pie followed by some two stepping and country bands at Armadillo Palace.
Day 2 –
Travel and Leisure Magazine calls Houston the Best Burger City, so take your guests for some lunch at the best burgers in Houston, the Hubcap Grill. Their buns are home made, the patties are freshly made each day and are never frozen, their fries are home made and fried twice and all ingredients are cut fresh on the day.
One of my favorite things about Houston is their dive bars and ice houses so we always take our guests. In the afternoon head to West Alabama Ice House for cheap drinks and a fun atmosphere.
Houston Theater district is a must for any out of town guest. The district spans 17 blocks in downtown with 12,948 theater seats, making it the second largest theater district in the US. There is something for everyone here so see a show, head to the ballet or visit the opera.
Before or after the show head to the cozy, well reviewed restaurant Oxheart on Nance St. They have beautiful food using Houston’s best ingredients.
Day 3 –
Head to Houston’s Museum district. There are 19 museums so there is something for everyone’s taste. Have a look at the Sam Houston Monument then take a stroll around Hermann Park, take a pedal boat ride in the lake then visit a free show at Miller Outdoor theater.
Finally grab some Tex Mex and Margaritas at El Tempo Cantina or the Original Ninfa’s followed by seeing a live band at Fitzgerald’s.
